The story behind Susa’s Gardening Sanctuary

Susa’s Gardening sanctuary started in 2013 when we purchased this property, having been a rental for a few years the whole property was generally run down.

The garden had been neglected with a few tough species hanging on for survival. We inherited a beautiful mulberry tree, bay and guava tree and a couple of roses. Mostly the garden was covered in couch and morning glory, I spent time eradicating this and studying the aspects of the land for a future design.

The garden was designed into sections using the beautiful darling scarp rock and there the foundations began.

I planted the south boundary and ornamental trees and this was the beginning of our sanctuary.

Today we have a healthy ecosystem which attracts local wild life bandicoots, lizards, dragon flies, frogs and countless birds who are just a few of our regular visitors.

Versatile Workshops From Composting To Companion Planting

“I would like to thank Sue of Susa’s Gardening Sanctuary for her continued support of the Gidgegannup Small Farm Field Day. Sue has been coming along to our event for some years now and has been very versatile, running workshops on a range of relevant gardening topics, from making compost, landscape design, what vegetables to plant when, to companion planting. Something new and exciting every year.

Proof Is In The Garden From Soil Workshop

“I am so glad I attended Susa’s Garden Sanctuary Soil Workshop. Learning how to improve the soil, make compost and develop a worm farm, as well as planting and watering correctly, has resulted in remarkable results in my garden. The proof is in the success I am now seeing in my plants. Strong plant growth and improved survival rates now make me feel like a true gardener as the plants are growing before my eyes.

My vegie patch is also much more productive, and I have edible produce to share. Thanks, Sue.”

Knowledgeable and Happy to Help

“I know Sue and how much work she puts into her lovely garden. She is happy to answer questions when you ask her. If she doesn’t know the answer, she will find out for you. Most times she will be able to answer them. She attends garden shows and runs a stall where you can ask about her workshops. She has also given tutorials at shows. Check her page and see how knowledgeable she is.”

Invaluable Gardening Consultation

“Sue provided me with a gardening consultation which was invaluable regarding the types of plants to plant and where to plant them. My aim is to create a low‑maintenance, low‑water‑requirement garden. Her informative and non‑judgemental advice, including planning one area at a time, finally motivated me to get started. I still have so much to do but now it all feels manageable.

Thanks so much Sue!”

Fantastic Help With Soil Restoration

“I recently attended a presentation by Sue where she explained the process of testing soil for the Ph levels. Her information was fantastic as it saved me a lot of heartache over the loss of some plants in my garden due to super high acidic soil. Not only did she test the soil for me she gave me three detailed options on how to restore the soil balance, so I have happier plants.”

Experienced Eye For Garden Improvements

“After acquiring a new property with an already established garden but in need of some improvements, I asked Sue if she would be prepared to cast an experienced eye and share some thoughts on the best way forward. Sue spent about an hour going over the aspect, soil type and my preferences for style and plantings. As a result, she left me with a wealth of advice and suggestions for every part of the property and inspired me to get out there and have a go. Without her expert help I would have been at a loss as to where to start. I would happily recommend her to anyone in need of gardening advice.”

Design a habitat Garden with Nature Workshop

Thank you for sharing your yard with us during the Design a Habitat Garden with Nature workshop. Being invited into your private garden to see what can be achieved and what is possible to grow was both inspiring and enlightening.

I especially enjoyed gaining hands-on experience and learning more about propagation and seed raising. The workshop provided practical knowledge in a welcoming and engaging way.
